چکیده

is not favorable (AH = + 3 1.5 kcal). Our conclusion is that an important catalytic site involves two adjacent surface dioxo units (the dual dioxo site), with each dioxo site extracting one H in a sequence of steps. The required dual dioxo site exists on the (010) surface of MOO, but does not exist on the other low index surfaces. This mechanism is supported by atmospheric pressure experimental studies which indicate that M00~(010) is selective for CH20 products. A detailed sequence of reaction steps and the associated thermochemistry is proposed. o 1985 Academic PKSS.

The Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Methanol to Formaldehyde over Silver Catalysts in Relation to the Oxygen-silver Interaction

The properties of silver in the oxidative dehydrogenation of methanol were studied in a flow reactor under near industrial conditions. The influences of temperature, concentration of both reactants, gas velocity, space velocity, the form of the silver catalyst and surface composition of the catalyst were studied. A model for the reaction is proposed which is based on the experimental observatio...

The Influence of Hydrogen Treatment and Catalyst Morphology on the Interaction of Oxygen with a Silver Catalyst

The interaction of an unsupported silver catalyst which had been pretreated by hydrogen at various temperatures with oxygen at 210°C has been studied using Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR) over a temperature range up to 900°C. Hydrogen treatment at 500°C or above before the oxidation step causes the formation of extra species, thought to be OH groups in the sub-surface of the sample. A pe...

Dehydrogenation of anhydrous methanol at room temperature by o-aminophenol-based photocatalysts

Dehydrogenation of anhydrous methanol is of great importance, given its ubiquity as an intermediate for the production of a large number of industrial chemicals. Since dehydrogenation of methanol is an endothermic reaction, heterogeneous or homogeneous precious-metal-based catalysts and high temperatures are usually required for this reaction to proceed. Here we report the photochemical dehydro...

Role of ceria in oxidative dehydrogenation on supported vanadia catalysts.

The effect of the suppport on oxidative dehydrogenation activity for vanadia/ceria systems is examined for the oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde by use of well-defined VO(x)/CeO(2)(111) model catalysts. Temperature-programmed desorption at low vanadia loadings revealed reactivity at much lower temperature (370 K) as compared to pure ceria and vanadia on inert supports such as silica. Densit...

Dehydrogenation of methanol by vanadium oxide and hydroxide cluster cations in the gas phase.

Bare vanadium oxide and hydroxide cluster cations, V(m)O(n)+ and V(m)O(n-1) (OH)+ (m = 1-4, n = 1-10), generated by electrospray ionization, were investigated with respect to their reactivity toward methanol using mass spectrometric techniques. Several reaction channels were observed, such as abstraction of a hydrogen atom, a methyl radical, or a hydroxymethyl radical, elimination of methane, a...

In situ studies of methanol decomposition and oxidation on Pd(111) by PM-IRAS and XPS spectroscopy.

Methanol decomposition and oxidation on Pd(111) at millibar pressure were studied by in situ polarization-modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRAS), on-line gas chromatography and pre- and postreaction X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Various dehydrogenation products such as methoxy CH3O, formaldehyde CH2O, formyl CHO, and CO could be spectroscopically identified. ...
